This experimental film is about Depression and it developed out of many visual experiences and discussions whereby the final result was totally immeasurable. One of the most exciting things was that just one person could really understand what depression is like nevertheless four points of view lead to the outcome.
We considered how to use pictures and sounds to evoke a certain feeling that is comparable with Depression.
Because Depression itself found „a place“ in the society - it is often discussed and the word is used in many situations and contexts that the depression as a real illness, that burdens many people - looses its meaning and importance. There are already so many interviews and documentations about this topic but you can only find words for feelings when these words already exist. Depression is comparable with some feelings but someone who hasn‘t a Depression will never really know how it feels like.
Therefore this film trys to converge to this toppic - the viewer should get involved but however a certain incomprehension and distance should remain. The audience should get the idea that this film is a perspective on how to see things, but it is not their own and this is why they will never really understand - because they don‘t have depression and Depression is always something very personal.

Visual Concept

We defined Depression as a feeling of constant disturbance and restlessness.
A feeling that covers everything like a heavy veil. A feeling that isolates oneself from the external world.
The feeling to be caged in oneself. The feeling that everything screams inside while nothing gets on the outside.

The film consists of three different sequences. On the one hand there are short cuts on the other hand longer sequences which interrupt the short cuts. The short cuts stand for getting lost, the inner brokenness - impressions that drum on you and overexert.
By contrast the long sequences stand for these moments, that you can hardly bear, because nothings seems to happen although the things never stop moving actually. They are lengthened deliberately to give the audience that feeling of disturbance and impatience.
The third level is a person that shows its back to the audience. The theme of the hair tie, that binds the hair and opens it is a allusion to the feeling of neither not being able to escape oneself nor to communicate this to the outside. It also represents the trying to pull oneself together but sometimes the head gets so heavy, that you loose control. The Person as the only real element besides the solely abstract ones distracts the viewer from the action and emphasizes the fact of an inner and an outer world.
